Is EC’s new logo for ‘by-the-fire-side?’ – Nana Konadu

1.8861057Wife of former President Jerry John Rawlings, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings says Ghana is “unserious” with its impending crucial election scheduled for November 7.

She tagged the nation as “jokers” with the Electoral Commission’s attempt to change its logo seven months to the general polls.

According to the leader and founder of the National Democratic Party (NDP), the new logo which is yet to be officially unveiled by the Electoral Commission doesn’t depict anything Ghanaian as compared to the current one.

She noted that with her artistic background – the logo is ‘irrelevant’ – “The design doesn’t suit the country in anything. We are just joking as a nation. We can’t just suddenly move the coat of arms as our EC logo to a meaningless logo.”

“The design really looks like an unfinished business. Like a sketch-work,” she said in an interview on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie‘ show.

Even before the Electoral Commission officially unveils its new logo already approved for use, a large number of Ghanaians have taken the Commission on for its decision to change the existing logo.

At a capacity building workshop for media practitioners on election reportage on Tuesday, the Electoral Commission displayed a new logo which is to replace the current one.

The new logo, a blue rounded crest with patches of white, yellow, red and green, has been described by many as inappropriate.

The EC Boss, Mrs. Charlotte Osei is yet to defend the replacement of the old logo – but, Nana Konadu says her timing to even do away with the current logo is wrong.

“There are so many issues the EC must attend to and the changing of a logo is not important. The call for a new voters’ register and the upcoming voters’ registration are things the EC must work on. They should be focused and work for the betterment of Ghana,”

“The new logo is meaningless, we can’t tell if it’s depicting a by-the-fire-side logo, or kids at play logo. There is no need for us to change our logo. The EC should rather focus on important things,” she told host Kwesi Aboagye.
