Volta record: Kufuor rubbishes Prez. Mahama’s claims

KUFUOR N MAHAMAFollowing President John Mahama’s claim that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) did nothing substantive in terms of development projects in the Volta Region during their tenure, former President John Agyekum Kufuor has rubbished the President’s claims by putting forth his administration’s achievements in the region.

President Mahama recently accused the NPP of sidelining the Volta Region as far as infrastructural development was concerned.

The President strongly defended the record of the NDC in the Volta Region, saying that the party was responsible for all the massive projects that the region has seen since the inception of the fourth republic.

President Mahama has previously challenged the NPP to indicate the projects they executed during their 8-year tenure, and it appears former President Kufuor has stepped up to the president’s challenge by touting his achievements in the region during his eight year tenure.

Mr. Kufour, who was speaking at his residence in Accra when the newly elected NPP MP for Abuakwa North paid a courtesy call on him, said his interventions in the Volta Region are uncountable.

NDC squandered money meant for the Keta Sea Defense project

He also accused the NDC of squandering money meant for the development of the Volta Region particularly in their handling of the Keta Sea Defense Project.

“They claim we did nothing in the Volta Region. Let’s start from Keta. The money they acquired for the sea defense wall, they squandered it. It was during my tenure that we constructed the wall.”

He also drew attention to the fact his government constructed the Ho Polytechnic and roads from Nkonya through to Dambai.

“Ho Polytechnic was built by us. Even the University of Ghana envies this school. Go to Nkonya through to Dambai. We constructed all those roads in the first term of the NPP.”

The former President also bemoaned the fact Ghana has returned to the IMF due to the government’s mismanagement of the economy.

“In three years, we were able to take Ghana from the IMF. Now we are back here again…During my tenure, Ghanaians abroad always wanted to come back home but this is no longer the case.”
