Founder and Leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) Madam Akua Donkor is the first to have applied to the police administration for police details ahead of the vigorous 2016 campaigns.
The Ghana Police Service last month, announced plans to provide protection for Presidential Candidates and their running mates before and during the November 7 general election.
The package according to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. John Kudalor forms part of security arrangements being put in place to ensure a peaceful electioneering process.
But Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service Superintendent Cephas Arthur on the Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko disclosed that it is only the leader of the GFP who has so far applied.
He disclosed that the others are eligible for police protection but as per his last check, they were yet to apply for the opportunity.
“In principle, all the political parties have accepted the offer but nobody has come forward to indicate his choice except Madam Akua Donkor”, he revealed.
Superintendent Arthur also revealed that a lot of progress has been made as far as providing police protection to flagbearers and running mates is concerned.
He indicated that if the rest fail to apply for the services police within the mandatory two weeks period, it will not affect the police from discharging its duties professionally.
