Otumfuo Osei Tutu II invites Flagbearers for golf match

1.9087958As part of efforts to lower the political temperature ahead of the 2016 general elections, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is inviting the flagbearers of the various political parties for a golf match.

It is the hope of the monarch that playing a game among themselves will send the right signal to their followers and also will make them see themselves as team players working for mother Ghana rather than rivals.

“I know those aspiring to the presidency and I have no doubt whatsoever in their good sense, in their good faith and their commitment to the preservation of the peace and stability of Ghana both during the run up to and after the elections.

“I am ever mindful of the biblical exhortation to pray without ceasing to constantly renew our faith lest we fall into temptation,” the Asantehene stated at the closing ceremony of the 59th edition of the MTN Asantehene royal gold club tournament for the year 2016.

He continued: “So I decided to use the platform of golf, to remind our leaders of their abiding commitment to the peace and solidarity of our land even as they reach out for the votes of our people. I am inviting all presidential candidates to join me for a weekend of gulf for peace and national unity in 2016. They will not play in their party groups but they will be mixed together for a weekend of pure gulf”.

Ghana goes to the polls on November 7 to elect a president and members of parliament. President John Mahama of the NDC who is seeking reelection will again face off with his main contender Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party and some other candidates.
