494868301_385804Residents of Idan, a suburb of Cape Coast in the Central Region, on Wednesday received the shock of their lives when a building collapsed on a 16-year-old girl, Maame Basiwa, in the area.

The girl, who was in form two at the Cape Coast Presby Junior High School (JHS), died instantly.

The incident happened when it rained heavily in Cape Coast from Tuesday evening around 5pm to Wednesday morning.

The body of Basiwa has been deposited at the Akotokyir Private Morgue for autopsy.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE, an eyewitness, Sister Efuwa Eyikowa, said the incident happened around 2:30 am when it was raining heavily in the area.

She stated that the deceased was sleeping in the room with the parents and one of her younger brothers, Uncle Emma, when the unexpected happened.

The eyewitness added that Uncle Emma, who seriously got injured because of the accident, was also rushed to the hospital where he was admitted and was receiving treatment.

When DAILY GUIDE visited the scene, it was observed that the building was in a deplorable state and should have been pulled down long ago.

Many people from the area trooped to the scene when they got the information.

The matter was reported at the Cape Coast Metropolitan Police Station for investigations to be conducted.

However, the parents of the deceased were sent to the mission house of Christ of All Mission.
