Adisadel College has emerged winner of the National Science and Maths Quiz 2016 after a grueling final against Opoku Ware and Mfantsipim Senior High Schools on Wednesday.
Adisco scored 44 points to lift the coveted trophy for the first time having lost in the final last year. Opoku Ware SHS was the first runner-up with 38 points while Mfantsipim came third with a point shy of what the second placed school had.
‘The Zebra Boys’ picked GHc 40,000 as a grand prize for the school, GHc 15,000 for the team of students and GHc 15,000 for the teachers who coached the team.
The final was held at the R.S. Amegashie auditorium of the University of Ghana Business School, Legon.
The quiz is very popular with not only its main target group, Senior High School students but also with parents and, especially, with former students (old boys and girls), who take great pride in the performance of their schools.
The objective of the National Science & Maths Quiz has been to promote the study of the sciences and mathematics, help students develop quick thinking and a probing and scientific mind about the things around them, while fostering healthy academic rivalry among senior high schools.
The quiz, popularly referred to as “brilla” by many who have gone through the secondary school system, is by far one academic event that brings all of Ghana’s secondary schools together.
