Aftermath of Brexit: Principal and Vice-Chancellor of RGU writes to Students

Dear RGU Students,

In the aftermath of the ‘Brexit’ referendum and the decision that the UK should leave the European Union, I am anxious to reassure you all that we are determined to ensure that students are not affected by any of the consequences of the vote.

My main reason for writing is to reassure all undergraduate students from EU member states, including those about to commence their studies this September, that you will not be liable to pay tuition fees at any stage of your studies.

The UK will continue to be a member State of the European Union for the next two years at least, and so fees for EU nationals will not arise.

Should there be a change of any kind, RGU will cover the cost of any tuition fees, so under no circumstances will any EU student now in RGU or starting in September have to pay any fees during the whole period of their studies until graduation.

The rules applying to students from non-EU countries, and from England, Wales and Northern Ireland, will not change from the current position. We will continue to welcome students from all over the world.

More generally, it is important that we stress to our entire RGU community that we are an international university and will continue to be so.

We welcome national and cultural diversity and believe that the presence of staff and students from other countries (the EU and beyond) enriches us. We will seek to ensure actively that the referendum and its outcome has no practical impact on this vision.

I am sure that people from RGU voted on both sides in this referendum, but I am also sure that we are united in supporting each other, wherever we are from. I am myself an EU migrant as you may know, and I shall ensure that RGU’s voice is heard in the coming processes.
