Ghana can get a female president but not Akua Donkor – Gifty Anti

99949352_390896Ghana can have a female president in the not too distant future, but Akua Donkor is a wrong choice, veteran broadcaster Gifty Anti has said.

Akua Donkor is the founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).

Her ambition to be president of Ghana in the 2012 polls was dashed when she was disqualified by the Electoral Commission.

She is a cocoa farmer by profession, not known to have had any formal education, but receives formal invitations from President John Mahama and his government to attend state functions.

Akua Donkor and former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings are the only women in the country to have declared their intention of becoming president.

Speaking on the possibility of a female president for Ghana on Saturday June 4 on Entertainment Capital on Accra FM, Gifty Anti noted that Akua Donkor is not a good example of the kind of female president Ghana could have.

“Akua Donkor is not a good example to get a female president. No, she is not. Unfortunately she is not, but we have a whole lot of young people coming up now who are focused, who are determined, who are hardworking, who understand the game of politics and few years to come, I can foresee them rising to that level”, she told host DJ Premier.

Asked if she had any political ambition, Gifty Anti said ‘no’.

Gifty Anti is a gender advocate and the host of The Standpoint programme; which discusses issues affecting women on Ghana Television.
