J.J. Rawlings challenges Dogbe

Former President of the Republic of Ghana, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings has challenged undefeated featherweight boxer Isaac Dogbe to continue the legacy of Azumah Nelson.

He said the featherweight title is known to be for Ghanaians, therefore it is up to Dogbe to carry on with what Azumah did during his days.

Isaac ‘Royal Storm’ Dogbe sent a strong signal to his colleagues with a R6 knockout defeat to undefeated Ugandan boxer Edward Kakembo at the Accra Sports Stadium last Saturday.

Speaking to the spectators, the former President congratulated Dogbe and his management for putting up a good fight, but urged him to work hard to get to the peak of his career.

“This is just the beginning, just as heavyweights title often belongs to the Africa Americans because of their sizes, I have always known that the featherweight division belongs to Ghana,” the ex-President noted.

He added that, “Dogbe now has the responsibility to carry on from where Azumah left off.”

He called on all stakeholders to rally behind the team and give the needed support to enable him get to the top to capture the world featherweight title.

Meanwhile, Kakembo, who looked very determined prior to the fight, fell short of expectations as he was knocked down in the first round of the fight.

The disappointed boxer blamed his defeat on the intake of too much pepper, and called for an immediate re-match.

“I do not take pepper but Ghana food is full of pepper that is why I could not perform so I want a re-match. I am very disappointed and I will bring my own food the next time I come,” he said.

Speaking after his win, Dogbe said: “I promised to deal ruthlessly with Kakembo for showing disrespect since he touched down in Ghana. I have dealt with him for calling me a dog and I am happy for that,” he stated.

The London-based Ghanaian boxer also added that “we accorded him all the respect he deserved but he has showed disrespect and I wanted to really hurt him but my trainer asked me to take things slow.
