Roc Nation LLC, An American Entertainment company owned by Jay Z has set its sight on signing Ghanaian act Sarkodie.
Briant ‘Bee-High’ Biggs, Director of Mobile Strategies at the imprint, and Jay Z’s cousin told US based Celebrity Reporter/Blogger Makho Ndlovu in an exclusive interview, he is “already talking” to the ‘Take It Back’ rapper.
Biggs is tasked with discovering new talents (to the American music market) around the world for Roc Nation to work with. The label months ago signed a distribution deal with Tiwa Savage, making her the first Africa act to join the company.
“We are going country by country. I’m already talking to Sarkodie in Ghana to do something with him,” he said.
“I got something in Gambia, Gabon and Senegal. We have it all spread out. Even in South Africa I am grabbing one artist out of there.”
Biggs also spoke about the decision to collaborate with African acts.
“To give them proper distribution in the States and make sure that they are getting proper publishing dollars and royalties. So by using our platform that we already built, we are giving them access to everything we have at our office to help them do the same. Build their brands and their companies like we did ours.”
Roc Nation was founded in 2008, and has offices in New York City, London and Los Angeles.
It houses a record label, talent agency, touring and concert production company, music, film, and television production company as well as a music publishing house.
DJ Khaled, Kanye West, Rihanna, Vic Mensa, Willow Smith, Meek Mill, Shakira, T.I, Big Sean, Angie Martinez and J. Cole are some of the personalities signed to the company.
