Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party [NPP], Nana Akomea says it is “sad” President John Dramani Mahama has rather chosen to enrich the life of the founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor and overlook the agony of head-porters also known as ‘Kayayei’.
According to him – money used to purchase two Pajero vehicles and a house for the ‘comic’ politician can change the living standards of these ‘Kayayei’ if invested wisely.
“We know she [Akua Donkor] is a leader of a political party. But we cannot pinpoint what she has done for this country in terms of development to compel the President to buy her two cars and a house,” he said.
The GFP leader has come under public scrutiny after she admitted she was given two Mitsubishi Pajeros and a house by President John Dramani Mahama after Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom took his Tundra vehicle from her.
The house, she said is located at Sakumono in Accra.
She made this known in an interview published last week.
Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, Nana Akomea averred that “It is unfortunate how the President is abusing state funds. Akua Dorkor’s case is an example of administrative injustice.”
“This is not the first case. Akwasi Addai Odike also told his party supporters that President Mahama will soon offer him a huge amount to run his party [United Front Party]. So what benefit will Ghanaians gain from these expenditures?” he asked.
Adding that “Government has ignored its priorities. Today ‘Kayayei’s’ are homeless, yes, this issue has been there for years but if there is money to spend on Akua Donkor, why can’t government help the ‘Kayayei’ as well?
