The chiefs of Adanse in the Ashanti region have accused presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom of snubbing them on two occasions.
Reports indicate that the chiefs, led by the Paramount Chief of Adanse Traditional Area, Okogyakokyere Bonsra Afriyie II, organized a mammoth durbar to welcome Dr. Nduom to the area on Sunday.
Surprisingly, the PPP presidential candidate, who is on a campaign tour of the Ashanti region, failed to attend the colourful traditional event organized in his honour.
Some of the chiefs expressed their frustration about Dr. Nduom’s failure to attend events in the area, saying that they love and appreciate Dr. Nduom but are surprised about his failure to honour their invitations.
Most of the chiefs said they intended to officially express appreciation to Dr. Nduom for establishing companies that had provided jobs for the majority of the youth in their town.
They therefore entreated Dr. Nduom to pay a courtesy call on the Adansehene immediately for him (Adansehene) to bless him.
Responding to the accusations, the PPP parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Frank Aboagye Denyansa, stated categorically that his flagbearer cannot snub the Adanse chiefs as being speculated.
Speaking to Nhyira FM, he said Dr. Nduom attended a programme at the Christian Village in Kumasi on Sunday morning, adding that the programme ended around 11am, which was the time that he was supposed to be at Adansehene’s palace.”
Aboagye Denyansa said Dr. Nduom, on realizing that he was getting late, told other PPP national and regional executives that were part of his entourage to head towards the Adansehene’s palace and apologize on his behalf.
He said Dr. Nduom after the Christian Village programme headed to the Adansehene’s palace, which is quite a distance but unfortunately his vehicle also developed a fault on the way and this caused further delays that made it impossible for Dr. Nduom to grace the occasion.”
Mr Denyansa denied reports that the flagbearer had snubbed the Adansehene, explaining that in November 2015, the PPP National Chairman embarked on nationwide tour during which he visited the Adansehene.
He said during the PPP national chairman’s tour, Dr. Nduom had not been elected as the PPP flagbarer so could not join him.
“But the people misconstrued it to mean that Dr. Nduom intentionally refused to visit the Adansehene.”
Aboagye Denyansa stated that Dr. Nduom respects traditional leaders in the country, including the Adansehene and would therefore not intentionally reject the chief’s invitation, assuring that Dr. Nduom would visit the Adansehene very soon to seek his blessings.
