Western and Central Regions’ favourite Broadcaster: All to know about Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson

Hardly is any major news from Western and Central Regions heard in national media which are not authored by the indefatigable Broadcaster, Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson. For this reason, many call him the key to Western and Central Regions’ major news.

Born at Dora Acquaye (a then private popular hospital in Takoradi) and bred in New Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana, Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson had  his basic education in Takoradi and a seven year secondary education at Ghana National College in Cape coast from 1987-1994.

He then proceeded to then College of Arts and Science owned by Nana Ampomah of IPS fame at Marina, Accra where he did professional course.

Also a Statistician, Nhyiraba, P.K or Uncle Paa as he is affectionately called by his huge fan base in the two regions did two National Service at Wiamoase in the Agona District of Ashanti Region and Akwidaa near Cape 3 point also in the Agona District of Western Region in 1995 and 2000 respectively.

Uncle Paa entered the broadcasting industry immediately after Service in 2000. He started as a Sports Presenter at Skyy Power FM in Takoradi with the likes of Kuntu Blankson, Elloyne Amande, Kwesi Essel, Osei Bediako and others. He moved from Sport to fully support the Akan Department then headed by the legendary Albert Mensa Nunoo, popularly known as Uncle Opia, who is his mentor.

Nhyiraba is currently the Head of Programmes, Akan Department at Skyy Media Group. “His eloquence in Akan language is unassailable” a fan told www.233times.net when asked what he admires about Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson. Another fan who worked under him for less than a year at Skyy Media Group said “If you think Uncle is fluent in Akan, hear him speak English”.

Philip Osei Bonsu, Western Region’s Public Relations Officer of Electricity Company of Ghana who worked with Nhyiraba for 5 years on the Jolly Breakfast Show said “Ask me a million times, who my best broadcast journalist in Ghana is, and I will mention one name a million times. He is Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson. I am this certain, because for almost five years, he was my co-host on the Western and Central Region’s biggest breakfast show: The Jolly Breakfast Show on Skyy. He is a joy to listen to. Extremely passionate about what he does. He is undoubtedly the Western Region’s Radio Avatar. A colossus in the game.”

He is well celebrated and loved by the people of Western Region because of his insatiable and uncompromising desire to fight to cause of the poor and vulnerable.  He is also famous for waking School Children up every dawn with a bell live on air every week day.

He doubles as the administrator of www.nsembig.com , a website dedicated to news from the Western and Central Regions of Ghana.

His mantra goes “I am working for a cause, not applause”.
