I wasn’t desperate to sign for Reading – Asamoah Gyan

Skipper of the senior national soccer team, the Black Stars of Ghana, Asamoah Gyan, in an interview with the media, has revealed that he was not desperate in joining English Championship side Reading in the just-ended transfer window.

He said: “Everything was set up for my unveiling at Reading and they were just waiting for me to append my signature to the contract.

“The condition they gave me to miss the 2017 African Cup of Nations is what I declined to, so the deal was called off.

“I was not desperate to find a club at that moment and it was just a propaganda made against me that I failed my medicals with the team,” he added.

The captain also stated that he can choose to quit football now and live with his family comfortably, adding that all those wishing for his downfall should wait because he still has the energy to play for 10 years.

Asamoah Gyan, just after the Reading transfer saga, tweeted on his page: “Am proud of my country, no one can stop me from serving my country, Ghana made me who I am today”.

Reading also failed to indicate whether the Black Star skipper missed his medicals, according to BBC.

Gyan has moved back to join UAE giants Al-Alhi on a season long loan from Chinese club Shanghai SIPG on transfer day deadline.

Gyan moved from Sunderland to the UAE league from 2012-2015 season, scoring 73 goals in 65 matches for Al Ain.
