JOHN Terry is out of Chelsea’s Friday Night Football clash at home to Liverpool with strained ligaments in his foot, and will be sidelined for 10 days.
Terry, 35, collided with Swansea’s Leroy Fer in the final minutes of Chelsea’s 2-2 draw at the Liberty Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday and the club has now confirmed his injury.
In a post on his Instagram account, Terry wrote: “I have strained my ligaments in my ankle which means I will be out for 10 days.
“Absolutely gutted, but will be giving everything to get back playing.”
Terry’s diagnosis may not be as bad as was first feared but will still provide boss Antonio Conte with a defensive headache ahead of the Liverpool game.
The centre-back left the stadium on clutches and took to Instagram to post pictures and videos of the swelling on his ankle and the treatment he was undergoing.
With Terry ruled out, David Luiz could be in line to make his second debut for the Blues after returning to the club on Deadline Day for £30m.
Terry’s absence means he will also miss Chelsea’s EFL Cup fixture away to Leicester City on September 20, but could be fit to return to Premier League action on September 24 against Arsenal.
