TRIPLE killer Arthur Simpson-Kent will die in prison for murdering ex-Eastenders star Sian Blake and their two children.

The former model joined a short list of other monsters – including serial killers and terrorists – who will never be freed after he was sentenced to a ‘whole-life’ term on Wednesday.

Mr Justice Singh said such sentences – handed out to just 61 other currently serving prisoners – were “reserved for few exceptionally serious cases”.

He described the way Simpson-Kent killed Sian, 43, and his own two young sons, Zachery, eight, and Amon, four, as “truly horrific”.

Simpson-Kent, in an interview with a psychiatrist that was read to the Old Bailey yesterday, revealed he took an axe to bash Sian’s head before turning to the sleeping boys. He then used a knife to make sure they were dead.

The father-of-five, to three women, said he “snapped” under the pressure of Sian’s recent diagnosis of terminal motor neurone disease, which left her with not long to live.

But the psychiatrist, Dr Philip Joseph, found Simpson-Kent had a “narcissistic personality” with a “grandiose sense of self-importance, requiring excessive admiration, has a sense of entitlement…puts his own needs over those of others, lacks empathy and shows arrogant, haughty behaviours or attitudes”.

Sian and her boys were killed overnight between December 14/15, last year, with Simpson-Kent telling her family she had gone away to take time for herself in light of her diagnosis.

It took police two weeks to find their bodies buried in shallow graves in their own back garden in Erith, south-east London.

After a hurried attempt at a cover up that saw him paint over blood spatter in the house, Simpson-Kent ran to Ghana, where he was born.

The judge rejected his claims he planned to kill himself in West Africa after Simpson-Kent went out partying on New Year’s Eve and spent three weeks moving around villages.

Mr Justice Singh told him: “I have been left in no doubt that this is one of those exceptional and rare cases where the requirements of punishment mean that a whole life order must be imposed.”

In a statement outside court, Sian’s family said: “Arthur has robbed us of our dreams and aspirations, everything we wished for Sian and our precious boys.

“He stood in the dock with a smirk on his face and showed no remorse.”

Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Gwyn, who tracked Simpson-Kent to Ghana, said the killer’s actions were “not those of a man who was devastated or even remorseful following the deaths of his family” and now “rightly faced the justice he deserves”.

Other prisoners serving whole-life sentences include serial killer Dennis Nilsen, Fusilier Lee Rigby’s murderer Michael Adebolajo, Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe and ‘Crossbow Cannibal” Stephen Griffiths.
