University of Ghana wins maiden UPAC Football Championship

ugThe University of Ghana won the maiden UPAC Football Championship after a 1-0 win over neighbours University of Professionals Studies (UPSA) on Saturday at Legon.

Midfielder David “Nyameba” Ansong scored the only goal of the match in the second half to hand the trophy to the host.

The University of Ghana recorded a nail-biting 3-1 penalty win over Accra Polytechnic in the semi-final after regulation time ended 1-1.

The University of Professional Studies also recorded a 3-1 win via the penalty shoot-out in their clash against Ghana Technology University College to set-up a mouth-watering final clash against the host.

The game lived up to its billing with the two teams displaying impressive displays at the Athletic Oval of the University of Ghana.

The maiden Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Football Championship was hugely successful and attracted a decent crowd.

The aim of the UPAC Football Championship is to broaden the frontiers of football at the tertiary level, bringing all the blocks under one umbrella and spearheading a revolution of the game at the highest educational level.

Amongst the many objectives of the UPAC Football Championship is the facilitation and co-ordination of the development of the game and the consolidation of the various blocks under one student sporting organization.

The UPAC Football Championship is distinctive in terms of its organizational structure and participation as it bridges the gap between the several tertiary blocks in the country.

It’s the only platform which pitches GUSA, GHAPSA and PUSAG blocks under one umbrella to compete for honours, scholarships and professional opportunities.

The UPAC Football Championship was sponsored by Ecobank and porganised by Rite Sports Limited.
