2 Bombs disabled at Ashanti Region Minister’s residence

Explosives-640x406Bomb experts from the Ghana Armed Forces Tuesday diffused two bombs planted around the premises of the National Data Centre which also houses the residence of the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Andy Okrah.

According to security sources, one of the bombs which had timers attached to them was planted at the entry to Mr Okrah’s residence while the other was planted right behind the Data Centre, which is also known as the Green House and close to the Golden Tulip Hotel.

The building also accommodates a very big communication mast believed to belong to National Security. No arrest had yet been made at the time of filing this report.

Regional Minister

When contacted, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr John Alexander Ackon confirmed the chilling discovery and explained that the security agencies had taken up the issue and were investigating.

Sources

According to the sources, the explosives were planted by some unidentified men on a motorbike around 5pm on Monday. The bombs have since been disabled and taken away.

The sources explained that L/Corporal Isaac Bukari, the security detail at the Deputy Minister’s residence spotted the men on the motorbike but could not arrest them.

They said minutes after the matter had been reported to the security agencies, armed police and military officers arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area and started investigations.

It said the explosives experts were able to disable the bombs and carried them away.

Security

There was heavy presence of armed military personnel in the area from last night till this morning when the bombs were carried away. The road behind the data centre was initially blocked but paved way for traffic around 9.30am.
