The state of Takoradi Hospital, the Second largest Health Facility in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis is pathetically miserable.

The facility popularly called European Hospital by many indigenes needs nothing but an immediate Government Intervention or it would collapse.

After numerous complaints from patients and clients who go there, a Team of Journalists from Skyy Power FM led by Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson visited the Facility to see things for themselves on Monday, November, 7, 2016.

Our investigations reveal the Hospital’s Laboratory has not been functioning for the past month because there have not been supply of Reagents( materials) needed to work.

Clement Amoako who is the Biomedical Scientist In charge tells my Team patients who visit the facility and need laboratory Tests are made to go and do their Tests elsewhere .

What is even more alarming is the fact that, if there is an emergency and a Doctor needs to know the blood level of a patient for the necessary action, no test can be done at the facility, putting the lives of patients in serious danger.

Mr Amoako could however not explain why management has not been able to provide the Lab with these badly needed reagents to keep this crucial unit running.

Currently, the lab Technicians and other staff there are idling around whilst patients suffer.

As if this is not enough, the Mortuary has also ceased to operate for almost a year because of obsolete and broken down equipment as confirmed by the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr Otu Boah.

Furthermore, the main X-ray machine has also not been functioning for lack of funds to repair it

In the midst of all these, refuse has engulfed the frontage of the main wards and the Administration block in this cholera season exacerbating the plight of patients and other clients.img-20161108-wa0014 img-20161108-wa0010
