Ghana ready for any opponent in quarter-finals – Grant

grant-newBLACK Stars’ coach Avram Grant says he has no preferred opponent for Ghana’s quarter-final game at the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Gabon.

The Black Stars have already qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament but will only find out their quarter final opponents after the last round of group games.

The Black Stars are currently top of Group D with 6 points from two games, followed closely by Egypt, who have 4 points from two games.

Ghana will play Egypt tomorrow evening (kick-off 7pm) and the result of that game will determine which country will emerge winner of the Group.

The Black Stars need just a draw to secure the top spot, while Egypt need to win to dethrone Ghana.

If the Black Stars win Group D, the will stay in Port-Gentil and face the runner-up of Group C. But if the finish as runners up, then the Stars will have to travel to Oyem and face the winner of Group C.

This permutation means Ghana is likely to face Ivory Coast, Morocco or DR Congo.

Asked if there is a particular country he would like to avoid, Ghana coach Avram Grant said, “At this stage, we don’t do any calculations on who we want to play. It is important that we win every game because it builds a winning mentality. We don’t calculate who is better or not, so it doesn’t matter if it is Ivory Coast or Morocco or DR Congo.”

The Black Stars are chasing an elusive fifth AFCON title and a first in 35 years.
