Barely three weeks after taking over the reins of government, President Akufo-Addo has revealed a grim picture of the country’s economy saying it is in deeper crises than the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government thought.
According to him, the erstwhile Mahama administration left a very weakened economy which poses a lot of challenges to his administration. Speaking to journalists at the Flagstaff House as he introduced his regional ministers on Tuesday [January 24], Akufo-Addo said he is confident of leading a total transformation of the country with his government in spite of the challenge.
“We inherited an economy in poor shape. From what I am hearing and the evidence that is coming to me that is in even poorer shape than we anticipated.” “I’m a firm believer and a statesman that when our times are tough, the tough gets going. This is the time that we have to show leadership and commitment to our nation. I continue to be an unrepentant optimist by the opportunities and prospects of Ghana. We are especial people with a special destiny and I am going to do everything within my bones to make sure that, that destiny is realised in the years ahead of us.”
‘My appointees the best for Ghana’ President AKufo-Addo has insisted that all his ministerial nominees are the best for the country’s development. He said he was confident the team he has assembled as ministers of state and regional ministers were going to deliver the best government the country has ever had. “The Ghanaian people are seeing the quality of the people that I have proposed for national office. There are those who made all kinds of noises about the choices but day after day, they are proven that they indeed have the quality and the calibre that we need now to take our country up and move it to the next state in the development of our nation. I am confident that these people that I have assembled are going to give us the best government this country has ever had.”
