Black Stars forward Andre Ayew says results are his major concern not fancy football at the 2017 African Nations Cup in Gabon. Ayew and his team-mates put up another gutsy performance to get a 1-0 win over Mali in their second group D match played at the Port Gentil Stadium on Saturday.
The win sends Ghana to the quarter-finals of the tournament ahead of their last group match against Egypt on January 25. Speaking after the match, Ayew admitted that the team needed to play better especially in the second half of matches but he would rather grind out results if it would bring the Nations Cup to the team in the end.
“If we play like this and it brings us the cup, I will do it through the entire tournament but then, we need to play better. It is true that we can do better and we are going to improve but we know what we are doing. When we do not have the ball on the field, we know what we are about. We have a good team and a goalkeeper who made two great saves today and we need to continue working.
It is very true that we need to play better in the second half of games.” Ayew has scored once in the tournament and he is expected to feature against Egypt on January 25 despite playing through illness against Mali.
