Every US President since Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933 has attended this traditional Prayer Service before being sworn into Office. Directly facing the White House, St. John’s is famously known as the “Church of the Presidents”– every US President since James Madison has worshipped at St. John’s.
In opening the service, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams recognized the sovereignty of God stating: “You rule in the affairs of men and give the Kingdom to whomsoever you will…We pray that you will give [President Trump, Vice President Pence, their families and the Cabinet] divine fortitude and wisdom above that of Solomon and command divine escapes from unexpected and unforeseen crisis and challenges.”
Archbishop, the only African known to be invited to pray at this time-honored Service for US Presidents, was joined on the program by globally respected US clergy leaders including Senior Pastor Jentezen Franklin; Pastor Mark Burns; Jerry Falwell, Jr; Rev. James Robison; Dr. James Dobson; Rev. Dr. Luis Leon; and others. The Archbishop has longed preached on the importance of praying for those in authority and had earlier led his congregation Action Chapel International in prayer for the US election.
Archbishop and Lady Rosa were honoured to attend the Inauguration of the United States’ 45th President—an impressive transfer of power in the world’s greatest democracy.

“Heavenly Father we thank you for this historic moment; for we are gathered here by your divine providence to hallow your Name and invoke Your blessings.
We recognize that You are Sovereign and You rule in the affairs of men and give the Kingdom to whomsoever you will. We, therefore, give thanks and commit to Your care and to the charge of Your mighty angels, President-Elect Donald Trump, Vice President-Elect Michael Pence, the incoming Cabinet and their families.
We pray that you will give them divine fortitude and wisdom greater and above that of Solomon and command divine escapes from unexpected and unforeseen crisis and challenges. We pray that you will satisfy President Trump, his cabinet and their families with long life and show them Your Salvation. We pray that during their term of office the glory and light of the United States of America will shine brighter and brighter unto a perfect day. And Father, we pray that You will move every mountain, obstacle and hill that is before President Trump and this nation; and that You will exalt every valley before them and make every crooked path straight and the rough places plain.
Cause President Trump and his team to soar like an eagle and show this nation a token for good. Father, we ask that you bless America and let America continue to be a blessing to the Nations of the world in Jesus Name.
Amen!”
