NDC functionaries jubilate over Dr. Opuni’s frozen assets

939492603_377311What appears to be a sad moment for family and relations of the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of COCOBOD Dr Stephen Opuni, has turned to be a joyous one for some functionaries and supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dr Stephen Opuni had his assets frozen by the state pending the outcome of investigations into various deals he allegedly signed in contravention of the procurement laws of the country among other financial scandals.

A leader of the party who spoke exclusively to mynewsgh.com on grounds of anonymity said it is now time for him to also bite the bullet especially when he is partly to blame for the party’s defeat at the December 7 polls.

“I don’t pity him at all. This was someone who felt he could not be subdued and worked in various ways to make our party unpopular leading to the defeat. What do you expect me to do go to his house in funeral clothes and mourn with him? Hell no!” he said.

He believes they are more of such characters the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government must pursue and deal with them because they felt like demigods during the reign of John Dramani Maham.

“Ever since news went viral that his assets had been frozen, I had several calls from my colleagues who were happy over what has befallen him. How on earth should we jubilate over someone’s fate but he has brought it upon himself,” he added.

Many within the NDC party saw Dr Stephen Opuni as a veritable pain on their necks and wished he was even sacked during the NDC era.

One of such persons is the Greater Accra Regional Secretary of NDC Anthony Nukpenu, who believed the Akufo-Addo government treated him [Opuni] with kid gloves by serving him a letter because “they should have sent boys to throw him out.”
