On Saturday 18th February, 2017, there was a heavy police presence at Amanful to avert further bloodshed after youths from Effiakuma and Amanful clashed in the afternoon at Kwame Nkrumah Roundabout leading to several injuries to some of the rioters.

Police source tells Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson that it all begun when some guys believed to be residents of Amanful snatched a phone from a Dagomba youth from Effiakuma. In an attempt to get his phone back, it resulted in a serious scuffle during which the Amanful youths reportedly combined forces to attack the Dagomba.

The Dagomba guy called to inform his colleagues from Effiakuma who quickly rushed to the scene with a very huge number resulting in more bloodshed. After about 30 minutes of ‘free for all fight’ with dangerous weapons including knives and cudgels, the military arrived to cause some arrest but that didn’t stop the Effiakuma youths from surging forward to attack until a combined team of police from the RDF, SWAT and Harbour arrived.

At Abaatan Drug store in Amanful the Effiakuma youths besieged there to launch more attack with hammers, wires and other weapons believed to have been brought in by some Dagombas from Kokompe.
