The Board of Directors of Ghana Oil Company (Goil,) has rendered an apology to President Nana Akufo-Addo after they falsely accused him of breaching procedures in appointing a new head for the company.
An online portal had earlier reported that President Nana Akufo-Addo had appointed Mr. Osei Prempeh as new GOIL CEO and also made fresh appointments to the Forestry Commission and the Ghana Health Service. Without cross-checking the authenticity of the report, the Board Chairman for Goil, Prof. William Asumaning, issued a statement saying due procedures in the purported appointment of the GOIL CEO were not followed. Ag. Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr. Eugene Arhin, responded to the news by indicating that the president has not appointed a new CEO for GOIL. The Presidency had expected Prof. William Asumaning to have gathered concrete evidence before throwing out a direct challenge to the president. “One would have hoped, in the interest of best practices, that the issuance of such a statement by Prof. William Asumaning would have been hinged on concrete evidence, in the form of appointment letters, and not mere speculation and conjecture by an online publication. The statement by the Board Chair was unfortunate and completely needless, to say the least”, a portion of the statement read. In a letter addressed to President Nana Akufo-Addo,a remorseful Prof. William Asumaning noted that the Board of Directors of Goil, regret the erroneous act they have committed. “To this end, we the members of the Board of Directors of Goil, do hereby, render our sincere apologies to Your Excellency for any embarrassment caused by the Board’s Statement in response to the Ghana Web publication of 24th February 2017”.
