Dr. Ernest Addison is new Governor of Bank of Ghana

79659906The President, Nana Akufo- Addo has appointed Dr. Ernest Kwamina Yedu Addison as governor of the Bank of Ghana barely a day after Dr. Abdul Nashiru Issahaku resigned as BoG boss.

The action of the president is believed to ensure continuity in the high office of the governor without a gap and was in accordance with Article 183 (4) (a) of the 1992 constitution. A statement issued from the Flagstaff house, seat of government and signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the presidency, noted the appointment has been sent to the council of state Dr. Ernest K. Y. Addison who is a former director of Research at the Bank of Ghana between 2003 to 2011, was until his appointment, a lead regional economist at the African development bank at its Southern African Resource Centre. He also worked as Chief Economist at the Research Department of the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI) in Accra, Ghana.

Dr. Addison joined the Bank of Ghana in 1995, where until recently, he was a Deputy Chief and Head of the Economic Analysis and Policy Division of the Research Department. He was also a member of the Open Market Operations Committee, Money Market Auction Committee and the Editorial Committee and also secretary to the Financial Programme Implementation Committee and the Financial Policies Committee. He chaired the Task Force set up by the Authority of Heads of State of ECOWAS to undertake all the preliminary studies culminating in the setting up of the West African Monetary Institute.

Dr. Addison is a former student of Mfantsipim, the University of Ghana and Cambridge University. Dr. Ernest Addison will become the 15th Governor to be appointed to the high office of the Bank of Ghana.
