Ghana’s development hinges on technical education – Former Energy Minister

THE Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Constituency, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has hinted that the country’s development hinges on technical education.
He said without good promotion of vocational and technical education, all development activities in the country would continue to struggle.
In an address delivered at the annual speech and prize-giving day, organised at Kikam Technical Institute (KTI) in the Western Region last Saturday, the MP explained that vocational and technical education are pillars of development and, therefore, ought to be promoted and properly positioned by government and stakeholders.
He, therefore, reiterated his commitment to make technical education one of the priority areas for the development of his constituency.
He touched briefly on the birth of free Senior High School education (SHS) as against the numerous challenges the schools in the country are currently facing and asked for effective implementation, monitoring and supervision.
He appealed to President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo not to be in a hurry to compound the challenges facing the schools, but help in fixing the challenges towards a progressively free SHS concept.
He congratulated students, staff and non-teaching staff for winning various awards, adding that “talents win games, but teamwork and intelligence make champions”.
The guest speaker, Noble lng Stephen Bismark Amponsah, who is the Executive Director of the National, Vocational and Technical Institute (NVTI) in Accra, also explained the significance of technical education to development of the country.
Other speakers were the regional director of education, the Principal and the school prefect.
Awulae Attibrukusu III, who was the Chairman for the occasion, commended the management of Kikam Technical Institute KTI for producing quality human resource for the country.
The program was organised under the theme, ‘Technical and Vocational Training and Development – the avenue for Reducing the Rate of Unemployment in Ghana’
