Over 2000 Traders ejected from inner perimeter of Takoradi Market Circle

Takoradi Market Circle in the twin cities of Sekondi-Takoradi on the coast of Ghana.

Hundreds of traders are facing off with the Guards of the Sekondi/Takoradi Metro Assembly following the Assembly’s decision to eject them.

The action of the Assembly follows numerous warning given to the traders to either move to inside the Market or the Apremdo Market but the traders have been reluctant with the excuse that they have nowhere to go.

The traders were allowed to sell at the inner perimeter in the heat of the 2016 political campaign season and have since remained there causing much inconvenience to Motorists and pedestrians. The Assembly gave a final notice to the enraged traders through various Radio Stations in the Twin City to vacate but that the traders would not budge

On Monday, March, 20, 2017 at about 6am, the Task force of the Assembly started enforcing the ejection resulting in serious tension. Some traders could be heard hurling unprintable insults on members of the task force and some officials of the Assembly who were supervising the exercise.

As at 11am on Monday, the usual vehicular and human traffic that could be seen at the Market circle had been totally eased as a result of the exercise making movement easy.

Many Motorists and pedestrians as well as traders who sell inside the Market have expressed satisfaction over the exercise saying it has brought sanity in the Market, however their fear is that, the exercise might only be a nine day wonder.
