The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Rush Western Music Awards, Nana Kwesi Coomson has called on stakeholders of the maiden Rush Western Music Awards to be participants not onlookers.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting at Melody Hotel last Friday (31st March, 2017), Nana Kwesi Coomson told the Artistes, Disc Jockeys (DJs), Radio Presenters and other nominees present that, they should actively participate in the activities of the awards ceremony via criticisms, critiques, commendations, etc. He told the over 70 stakeholders present that “Bash us all you could, praise us all you could. You shouldn’t always be romantic when criticising us. Pour out all your frustrations concerning the awards and make it known to us when we are wrong. Please commend us too when we do something right. When I was growing up, I heard from elders that the person who likes you is the one who would tell you things as it is so we embrace all you say, we are a listening organisation.”
“We (residents of the Western Region) have complained for long that Ghana Music Awards only concentrates on Accra, making some even label it as Accra Music Awards. We hear all these on air when we are listening to the entertainment review shows. We now have an award ceremony that concentrates on Western Region. I think this needs active participation than onlooking. We are honestly encouraged by the scads of criticisms, critiques and the commendations. These will shaped some of the activities of the main events and I can assure you that the subsequent ones will be great” Rush Western Music Awards PRO told the stakeholders present.
During the stakeholders’ meeting, the code for voting (1761 on all networks) for the nominees were made known to them. Representative from Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) spoke to the participants on the need to get involved as well as the benefits that the awards will add to their brand. Chief Executive Officer of Westline Entertainment, Egya Ampaabeng educated the stakeholders on how to vote in the various categories. Also, the PRO lectured the stakeholders on how to gain media attention with the awards. The nominees jam at Bogoso on 7th April, as well as the main event on 29th April, 2017 were discussed.
