The body of the army captain who was lynched by some irate youth at Denkyira Boase in the Central Region is expected to arrive in Accra on Tuesday, May 30, Class FM’s sources at the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have confirmed.

The body will be taken to the 37 Military Hospital for autopsy as the military command continues investigations into the circumstances that led to Captain Mahama’s death.

Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo-Addo has assured the family of the late officer that none of those involved in his killing will go scot-free. Captain Mahama was lynched on suspicion that he was an armed robber, after a group of residents from whom he asked for directions during a Monday dawn jogging session spotted a pistol on him.

Mr Akufo-Addo described the crime as “heinous” and the death of the soldier as a “tragic loss”.

“My condolences to the family of Captain Maxwell Mahama on their tragic loss. I assure them that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be arrested and dealt with in accordance with the laws of our country. No one involved in his murder will go free,” he said in multiple tweets.

With fears that some military officer will retaliate and attack residents of the town, GAF has urged residents of Denkyira Obuasi not to flee their homes in the wake of the killing of Captain Mahama by the townsfolk in a mob attack.

The Director of Public Affairs at GAF, Col. Eric Aggrey-Quarshie, has said rather than fleeing the town, the residents should assist investigators to identify the perpetrators of this incident.
