Emile Short commends Prez. Akufo-Addo for assuring to fight corruption

Emile-Short-1-750x406A former Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Justice Emile Short, has commended president Akufo-Addo for boldly assuring that he will fight the corruption scourge facing Ghana.

Addressing a meeting of Ghanaians resident in Sierra Leone during a visit, Akufo-Addo pledged to deal ruthlessly with the canker, noting that he will not shield any public official found to be engaged in acts of corruption or malfeasance.

“When people get up in the net, I am imploring people not to come to me and say that ‘Oh! Nana, this man is my relative, so spare him.

“That is the problem in Ghana. You find people going to speak to your wife with the hope trying to influence you. I am not going to listen to that, because my concerns is Ghana and not one or two individuals,” he added.

Commenting on the president’s stance Monday May 29, 2017 on Accra-based Radio XYZ, Justice Short said the scourge continuous to persist due to lack of accountability.

According to him, however, Akufo-Addo is saying the right things in the fight against the menace and that he has to go a “step further to fight corruption in Ghana.”

On his part, the chairperson of the African Union Advisory Board on Corruption Daniel Batidam urged the president to prosecute corrupt former government officials found culpable of the nefarious act.

The anti-corruption campaigners stated the high demand to fight corruption recently is a good step, observing that corruption at any level is not acceptable, noting that “I worry a lot about corruption in our country.”
