Lapaz shooting: Ghana Police Service confirms Policeman’s death

lapazThe Ghana Police Service has confirmed that one police officer died whilst another was on admission at the Police Hospital in Accra following Thursday afternoon’s broad day shooting by suspected armed robbers at Lapaz in Accra.

The incident happened around 1:20pm and that the two officers who were unarmed were on community policing patrols with their motorbikes  at Lapaz near the Las Palmas restaurant.

The police officers were gunned down by two unidentified men who were on an unregistered motorbike and are currently on the run.

“Unfortunately, one of the police personnel passed on while receiving treatment but the second is in a stable condition,” a press statement issued and signed by Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Effia Tenge said.

To facilitate their movement, the assailants abandoned their motorbike, snatched an unregistered ash Hyundai Elantra saloon vehicle and sped off towards the Mallam junction direction.

The police have urged the public especially Lapaz residents to remain calm as they intensify efforts to arrest the perpetrators of the crime.
