Prez. Akufo-Addo congratulates German Chancellor Angela Merkel

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated German Chancellor Angela Merkel for her re-election on Sunday.

Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in alliance with Christian Social Union (CSU) beat Martin Schulz’s Alternative for Germany (AfG) on Sunday to clinch her fourth term in office.

In his message to congratulate Ms Merkel, President Akufo-Addo said: “It is my sincere hope that Chancellor Merkel will continue on the path of delivering unity, security, progress and prosperity to the German people”. “It is also my overriding hope that the already strong Ghanaian-German relations will grow from strength to strength, on a shared agenda of freedom, development, progress and prosperity.”

The election results have sparked nationalist protests in capital Berlin but Ms Merkel has vowed to win back the right-wing members.
