Works on Takoradi mall to commence soon

The Sekondi- Takoradi Mayor Anthony K.K Sam has assured that in no time the Western Region will get a shopping mall as government makes effort to create jobs for the teaming youths within the metropolis.

He made this revelation at the 2nd ordinary meeting held at the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolitan Assembly Chamber.

The meeting was essentially to educate the assembly members on projects and programmes of the assembly.

It will be recalled that the Tanokorom Kokompe site was cleared off Artisans who were occupying the site to pave way for the Takoradi Shopping Mall. After five years no work has been done on the land.

According to K.K Sam, the assembly is currently in engagement with the contractors and they have undergone various site inspections and he is optimistic that by the close this month, construction of the shopping mall will kick start.

“So far the contractors are in and we have inspected their drawings and everything. They are to start work any moment from now… we have met the technical team and we have been informed that by the close of this month they will kick start working on the site”.

He noted that the construction of the mall will help tackle the problem of unemployment with in the metropolis

This he explains that per the contract ‘local content has to play a major role in the project that we are about to undertake. The workers that they are going to be employ must be natives of the region, we have agreed on few portion of expect to come assist the project to help curb the problem of unemployment with in the region”.

Mr K.K Sam also disclosed that, the assembly is poised on beautifying the metropolis.

He mentioned that,” the assembly intends to plant trees and green grass in all open spaces to beautify the city. We intend to fix all pavement blocks along all ceremonial and major roads to make the city clean and beautiful”.

“Therefore Hon. members are to assist in the exercise of removing all kiosk from our ceremonial and major roads to help beautify the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis”
