Fifteen suspected criminals, including four persons said to be armed robbers, have been rounded up by the Police in the Central Region in a latest effort by the Police to rid the region off criminal activities.

They were arrested from their various hideouts during what the Police termed ‘strategic swoop’ in the Cape Coast metropolis and Kasoa among other places in the region. They include Ebenezer Aban, 20yrs; Joseph Yevugah, 25; Bashiru Abdlai, 19; Flex Adjei, 17; Emmanuel Anane, 27; David Basayia, 23; Kwasi Mensah, 23; and Richard Mensah, 25. Police found on them 123 pieces of wrapped substances suspected to be narcotic drugs, 10 knives, 24 scissors, syringes, hammer, crowbar and chisels among other implements.

Wooden structures serving as safe havens for the suspected criminals were also set ablaze by the Police which have vowed to make criminal activities in the region unattractive to the people. Central Regional Police Commander, COP Rev. Nenyi Ampah Benin said the Police would ensure the Central Region remains peaceful and uncomfortable for criminals to operate. “They [criminals] should leave this region because this place is not a safe haven for them,” he warned. To this end, he said the Police would periodically embark on strategic swoops arrest criminals from their hideouts Also, he said they would deepen police visibility to ward off criminals in the various communities.
