Arsene Wenger avoids FA charge for Neil Swarbrick confrontation

Arsene Wenger will face no FA punishment for a confrontation with referee Neil Swarbrick after Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at Watford.

Wenger was furious at the award of a second-half penalty for Hector Bellerin’s challenge on Richarlison.

Sky sources indicate Wenger then pursued him down the tunnel and into the referee’s changing room after the final whistle, where words were exchanged.

That in itself is not necessarily an offence, depending on the words Wenger used to the referee. In his post-match interviews, Wenger called the decision “scandalous”.

But crucially, Swarbrick has not included the confrontation with Wenger in his match report, and so the FA will not hold an inquiry.

Richarlison will not face any retrospective charge for simulation, Sky sources have confirmed.
