Legal practitioner , Maxwell Opoku Agyemang, has withdrawn his counter suit against Electoral Commission boss, Mrs Charlotte Osei.
Mr Opoku Agyemang , who represents certain petitioners seeking the impeachment of the EC boss, was sued for defamation by Mrs Osei.
But Mr Agyemang filed an interlocutory injunction seeking to restrain Lawyer Thaddeus Sory from representing the EC boss in the defamation case and also for the court to dismiss the case.
He claimed Mr Sory’s firm engagement by the EC boss was part of the petition seeking for the impeachment of the EC boss and therefore, the firm must not represent the EC boss in the defamation case against him.
But at Monday’s hearing at the Accra High Court, Mr Opoku Agyemang withdrew his counter suit.
Counsel for Mr Agyeman, Mr Julius Opoku Adjei, explained that the withdrawal was necessitated because his client had instructed another lawyer to make an appearance in the defamation case.
The court, presided by Mr Justice Kweku T. Ackaah Boafo, therefore, awarded cost of Ghc4,000 against Mr Opoku Agyemang.
