Cristiano Ronaldo is Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has beaten Barcelona striker Lionel Messi and PSG attacker Neymar to win The Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year.

Held on Monday night, the awards also saw the Portugal captain named in the FIFA FIFPro XI. In the year under review, Cristiano Ronaldo led A Seleccao to their maiden continental trophy after they beat hosts France in the final to win the 2016 European Championship. He also led Real Madrid to the 2016/2017 UEFA Champions League – a successful title defence – and the Spanish La Liga. The award is Ronaldo’s second consecutive accolade after winning the inaugural The Best awards in January, 2017.

The event held in London also saw Zinedine Zidane named the The Best Men’s Coach ahead of Antonio Conte of Chelsea and Maximiliano Allegri of Juventus. The Netherlands Lieke Martens was named The Best Women’s Player of the Year. Olivier Giroud’s goal for Arsenal against Crystal Palace in the English Premier League was handed the FIFA Puskas Award for the best goal. Juventus’ Gianluigi Buffon was named The Best Goalkeeper. Fans of Scottish club Celtic were given the FIFA Fans Award.

Midfielders: Andres Iniesta, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos,
