Int’l Friendly: France 8 – 0 Ghana

Ghana’s Black Queens were walloped Monday night by their French counterparts in a friendly match played at the Auguste Delaune Stadium in Reims, France.

The friendly formed part of the two sides’ preparations for respective future tournaments, which they incidentally host. While the Europeans are waiting to host the world in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Ghana will host Africa in the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations. But it was the world’s fourth-ranked side that dominated play in Reims. Ouleye Sarr opened the scoring for Les Bleues in the 36th minute to end the first half 1-0. They returned from the break to score seven times against the Queens.

Amandine Henry scored just two minutes into the second half before doubling her tally six minutes later. Viviane Asseyi made it 4-0 in the 59th minute with a beautiful Scorpion Kick.

Eugenie Le Sommer scored within a spate of one minute to put the game beyond the Africans before Asseyi added her second on the night. With 10 minutes of play left, Valerie Gauvin got her name on the score sheet as she made it 8-0 for the French.
