The series has been on air in Ghana since 2015.
A lot of Ghanaians have been obsessed with the foreign telenovela to the extent that it made its way into Class four English Language examination questions set by the Yilo Krobo Municipal Education Directorate.
Question 10 of the English Paper written on Monday July 17, 2017 and sighted by Kasapa News Eastern regional Correspondent Kojo Ansah, instructs the pupils to choose appropriate Conjunction ( A.and ,B.but ,C. So .D.Or ) to fill the question bellow.
“Kumkum Baagya is a popular watched TV series ………..I don’t watch. ”
The question sparked controversy as a section of the public believed the examiners shouldn’t have set question on Kumkum Bhagya TV program given that there are more salient questions that should have been set.
Recently the leading actors in the Kumkum Bhabya series were in Ghana where fans were being charged GHC600 to have dinner with the stars.
But speaking at an event, the Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu Ekuful urged Ghanaians to be proud of our culture and further called for the development of more local content to be aired on TV to showcase the Ghanaian way of life to the world.
“I’m looking forward to the conclusion of this forum to guide the policy implementation especially in the creation of content. Africa also very rich culture and this is our opportunity to showcase what we have to the rest of the world. We should not always be consumers of contents produced in other jurisdiction but also be proud of what we have and sell our culture, our lifestyle, our belief to the rest of the world. For us in Ghana, I was trying very hard not to mention any programme, so let my apologize to …I don’t even know what station broadcast it. The DTT Platform should not just be a platform to showcase Kumkum Byagya.”
