Prez. Akufo-Addo leaves for 3 nation tour

President Akufo-Addo left Ghana yesterday for a 10-day visit to Togo, the United States of America and Germany.

Moments after the short swearing-in ceremony of Martin Amidu as the Special Prosecutor, the president dashed to the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) enroute to neighbouring Togo to resume the mediation efforts he initiated on February 19, 2018, with representatives of the Government of President Faure Gnassingbé, the Union for the Republic Party and the Coalition of 14 opposition parties.

This is aimed at finding a lasting solution to the political impasse in that country.

In the United States of America, the president is expected to address the National Governors’ Association (NGA) Winter Meeting in Washington DC, as the first African leader to address the 50 US Governors at an NGA conference.

A statement from the presidency, signed by Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin, indicated that President Akufo-Addo would also take part in the World Leaders’ Forum, organised by the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

In Germany, President Akufo-Addo would deliver the keynote address at the 5th German-African Economic Forum in Dortmund, being held under the auspices of the Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, Herr Armin Laschet.

He is also billed to deliver the keynote address at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation’s German-Ghana Business Forum.

Before leaving Germany, President Akufo-Addo is expected to hold bilateral talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel aimed at strengthening the cooperation that exists between the two countries.

He is to return home on Monday, March 5, 2018.
