17 Recruits sacked from the Army

INFORMATION REACHING us indicates that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has sacked 17 recruits who were undergoing training at the Army Recruit Training School (ARTS) at Shai Hills in the Greater Accra Region.

The 17 were among several others who were undergoing a six-month training to join the Armed Forces.

They were said to have failed their basic fitness test on Thursday, May 24, 2018, and were made to leave the school on Saturday.

A source who confirmed the dismissal to DAILY GUIDE explained that the recruits who were sent packing were given several chances to go through the test in order to save themselves, yet they failed.

“If you cannot pass ordinary physical fitness test then you are not qualified to be there. We won’t recruit people who cannot stand the testament of time for the public to start questioning our integrity and how we went about training. Never!

“The training is six months and if you cannot meet the standard of passing out, then there is no need for you to be there. People can even be sacked on the passing out,” the source stated.

Meanwhile, those who managed to pass the test are expected to pass out in June this year.

In the year 2016, the Ghana Armed Forces sacked 501 recruits, who were undergoing training, for misconduct.

They were said to have held an unauthorized assembly, complaining that the training amounted to “maltreatment” and later marched to the instructors’ place demanding to be sent home because it (training) was too strenuous.

Their dismissal was contained in a statement issued and signed by Colonel E. Aggrey-Quarshie, Director of Public Relations of GAF.
