Three people have been reported dead in Asebi, a suburb of Mampong at the Asokori-Mampong district in the Ashanti region after an hour of heavy rainfall in the regional capital, Kumasi, Thursday evening.
The three reportedly drowned after the house they were living in was submerged and completely taken over by Thursday’s rainfall.
The remains, as reported by Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako Justice, have been conveyed to the Mampong Hospital mortuary.
Kumasi came to a standstill on Thursday as several areas including Sawaba, Aboabo, Anloga, Kwadaso, Tafo Sepe Boukrom got flooded, with a number of houses submerged following the downpour.
Many families in the above-mentioned areas were displaced and had to seek shelter with friends and other family members elsewhere.
Properties running into thousands of Ghana cedis were also destroyed by the rain.
The coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation for the Ashanti region together with his team on Friday went round to assess the level of damage.
