A twenty-eight-year-old man, Steven Kwame Nsia, has been left paralyzed after he was allegedly brutalized by Police and Military personnel at OFoase in the Atwima Nwabeagya district early this year.
The security detail was deployed to the town when some residents went on a rampage and locked up their District Chief Executive over the citing of a district capital.
Steven Kwame Nsia who is now bedridden was shot twice at his back by armed security operatives.
Speaking to Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, the victim said he was shot even though he was not part of the chaos that prompted the police response.
” …When I got out, I heard some noise and so I asked my friend that we got closer to see what was happening. Suddenly, we saw a Tundra pick up truck pulled up with armed men and they started shooting so I dashed into a house. But they shot into my spine and one too at my back and now I can’t do anything. Sometimes I wish God will just call me so that I will go away instead of just lying in one state for this long and in pain. Because I can’t walk, pass urine and move around for the past five months,” he lamented.
His brother Elisha Kofi Asante who now takes care of him said he has spent his life savings of over GHC40,000 on his shot brother and has nothing left to continue the care. He expressed shock that a government committee set up to investigate the matter does not appear to be concerned about the plight of his brother since they are yet to communicate the status of their probe.
He said even though his brother was shot by the Police, no financial support has been offered to them by the state.
In all, four people died in the town in the wake of the police brutalities.
