Court sentences Chinese for failing to register company

A Chinese businessman has been sentenced to a fine of GH¢12,000.00 by an Accra Circuit Court for failing to register his Mall with the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).

Chen Min Shan initially pleaded not guilty to the charge but later changed his plea to guilty and he was convicted on his own plea.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Man-Anit Sampana told the Court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Essandoh that, the GIPC, as part of its monitoring activities, gathered that there were some foreign companies operating in the Accra Metropolitan Assembly jurisdiction without license.

With this information, GIPC wrote to the Registrar General’s Department for information on those companies and it came out that Shan had not registered the China Mall Limited, a wholly foreign owned company, currently operating on the Spintex Road.

DSP Sampana said on October 4, 2017, the GIPC wrote to Shan inviting him to register his company before November 6, the same year.

Shan received the letter the following day and acknowledged it but he did not comply with the rules.

In the course of investigations, the convict admitted the offence and he was charged accordingly.
