The Nanung Traditional Council of the Northern Region has announced the death of the Chief of Wulensi, Alhaji Salifu Wumbei, aged 79.
Alhaji Salifu Wumbei died of a “natural cause” at his palace at Wulensi in the Nanumba South district on Friday, August 10, 2018.
The Registrar of the traditional council, Wahaga Braham, described the late chief as a visionary leader, a conqueror and a just personality who stood for the truth no matter the circumstance.
He said the news of his death has come as a shock to the Nanung Traditional Council and has brought the Nanung Kingdom to a standstill.
Alhaji Salifu Wumbei was very instrumental in the council’s efforts to bring development to the area.
Alhaji Salifu Wumbei was the Nanung representative at the National House of Chiefs who served on a number of committees.
Born on the 15th of September 1939, he was enskinned as the Chief of Wulensi on the 27th of April, 2000.
He ruled for 18 years, and was the first ever Chief in Nanung to have represented the Nanung Traditional Council at the National House of Chiefs.
The Nanung Traditional Council further expressed its condolences to the family and directed that all well-wishes should be done at his palace at Wulensi.
