Tamale Metro Assembly to regulate tricycles

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a private company to regulate the use of tricycles known as Yellow-Yellow for commercial purposes.

The company called WorkForce Ghana is mandated to register all tricycle operators who are required to pay a daily toll to the assembly.

This move comes at the back of a Citi TV report about the tricycles operations gradual collapse of traditional taxi cabs in the Tamale Metropolis.

Musah Salifu, Public Relations Officer of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly in a Citi News interview disclosed that so far 2,000 tricycles were operating as Taxi cabs in the Tamale Metropolis.

He attributed the cause of vehicular traffic within the business enclave to the influx of the tricycle operators.

Musah Salifu warned that tricycle operators who will fail to register with the private company, WorkForce Ghana would be arrested and prosecuted.

“The Assembly will soon embark on an exercise to ensure the effective regulation of these tricycles popularly called Yellow-Yellow.”

“This move will drastically decongest the City because these tricycle operators are largely also to be blamed for the congestion of the City and it will also lead to an increased in revenue for the assembly.”
