We’ll create more jobs for youth – Bawumia

The Vice President,  Mahamudu Bawumia has reiterated the government’s resolve to institute innovative and prudent economic policies and to create more jobs.

He said the government was determined to return Ghana to the path of growth and stability to create prosperity for all.

That, he stated was geared towards unearthing the talents and skills of the youth to empower them to contribute substantially to national development.

He gave the assurance in an address at a grand durbar to climax the week-long celebration of the Fetu Afahye of the Chiefs and people of Oguaa.

According to him, dealing with the issues of poverty and unemployment was no longer an option because they were serious national security issues which must be prioritized of which the government was equally finding a lasting solution to.

He cited the creation of a Nation Builders’ Corps (NBC), which was set to employ at least 100,000 graduates in 2018 across the country as proof of government’s commitment.

The programme would train graduates and equip them with tools and experiences with GHC700 monthly stipend.

He said the restoration of the allowances signified that about 45,000 teacher trainees in 41 public colleges of Education and Nursing Training Institutions were expected to receive GH¢204 each as monthly allowance from the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF).

He added that the government had also created jobs for young farmers in the cocoa pollination, pruning exercise and supplied improved disease resistant seedlings to farmers under the “Planting for Food and Jobs programme.”

The veep also announced that the country was now self-sufficient in maize production.

Dr. Bawumia called for support for the government to achieve its vision and urged more youth to take advantage of the various interventions to improve themselves.
