Man kills wife and injures 4 children at Twifo Praso

A man at Twifo Praso in the Twifo-Hemang Lower Denkyira District of the Central Region has allegedly killed his wife and injured four of their children.

The suspect Kwame Obe, currently at large is said to have committed the act on Sunday night.

He is said to have bludgeoned the wife on October 14 and descended on their four children as well.

Three of the children in critical conditions are currently in hospital responding to treatment at the Twifo-Praso District Hospital.

The Twifo Praso District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Charles Boateng who confirmed the incident said Kwame Obe fled the scene when he thought all the five victims were dead.

He said the injured children, including a one-and-half-year-old, are aged 10, 6 and 3.

He said the body of the deceased, 28, has also been deposited at the same hospital.

ASP Boateng in his explanation said the police were called at about 11 pm on the day of the incident and on reaching the crime scene, found the body of the deceased on the ground together with her one-and-half-year-old baby.

He said the suspect attacked all the three children with a club and left them when he thought they were all dead.

“Initially he thought they were all dead but it was realised later when a senior brother, who lives the next cottage returned from town to see that the three children were not dead so he rushed them to the Twifo Praso government hospital,” ASP Boateng said.

He said preliminary information gathered indicates that the suspect came from Kasoa to live at the place about three months ago and that he isolates himself from the public, adding that he sometimes does not respond to people’s greetings or greet others in the neighbourhood.

According to ASP Boateng, nobody in the area seemed to know what led to the incident, including the suspect’s younger brother who lives around the area.

He said the elder child of the suspect who could brief the police about what transpired before the incident is currently in a life-threatening condition at the hospital.

He said the suspect used club on the children, adding that all the children had sustained various degrees of injuries on their heads.
